La maison des deux clochers is owned by myself, Laura
Bradbury, and my husband Franck Germain. Franck is a native of Burgundy, and
grew up in a neighboring village to Magny-Les-Villers.
I am from Victoria, Canada and fortuitously
met Franck on a student exchange to Burgundy after high school. We bought the
house shortly after I finished a law degree at Oxford University, and before we
moved back to Canada. We wanted a little place of our own that was a concrete
tie to Burgundy, and also a place to stay when we went to visit family.
Now, four years later, and with a family of
our own in the form of our two young daughters, Charlotte and Camille, we
realize that acquiring La Maison des Deux Clochers turned out to be a much more
fortuitous decision than we could ever have imagined!
Although we are currently living in Victoria,
we try to go to France as much as possible, and are always playing around with
the idea of moving back for a few years. I can honestly say that I now love
Burgundy just as much as my native country. I never fail to be impressed by the
deep passion Burgundians have for all that is pleasurable in life. They love
laughing, they take their meals extremely seriously, and most of all they are
endlessly devoted to the production and tasting of exquisite wine. All in all,
this transforms day to day life in Burgundy into a rollicking adventure of new
tastes and experiences.
Burgundians are warm and proud to share their
heritage. They have much to be proud of; the quaint stone villages, the rolling
vineyards, the beautiful tiled roofs...With very little effort on the part of a
visitor, one will find that cave doors are easily flung open, and that one can
partake in the legendary hospitality of the region. Who knows, maybe you ll even
finish the day as many Burgundians do...talking and laughing together over a
truly magical bottle of wine. That, to me, is what life in Burgundy is all
about. |
